- Oil Seeds -
Most Oil seeds contain oil within them. That being the case that does not mean that all the oil can be edible by human beings. Some oilseeds contain poisons within them. Thus beans such as caster are very desirable for the cosmetics industry but it’s not used for dietary oil cooking.
Edible oil is becoming a need for human society. We use cooking oil for making other foods. Therefore the demand is very high and will continue to increase with the growth of the human population.
The agricultural sector of Ethiopia is characterised by a very large number (approximately 14.2 million) of fragmented smallholdings averaging 0.95 ha in size, together with a much smaller number (approximately 1,300) of larger commercial farms that make up 2.5% of the land area. Altogether approximately 12.5 million ha are cultivated to temporary crops each year.
